OS & OOS is a Dutch design studio established in 2011 by former Design Academy Eindhoven classmates Oskar Peet and Sophie Mensen. The design duo skilfully walk the delicate tightrope between design and art, form and function, creating objects that often have unexpected shapes and forms but a clear purpose. Most recently, Studio OS & OOS have created a copper version of the studio’s Mono-Light, which was presented at Galerie Gosserez during the 2014 PAD art fair in Paris. The large-scale installation adopts the somewhat retro, very industrial aesthetic of fluorescent tube lights, but replaces the high-energy bulb with low-energy LED technology.

With ever increasing demands for products to become lighter, faster, smaller, more intuitive and interface with us as human beings, materials are having to become more multifunctional, being able to perform more than one task. The Mono-Light was born out of a demand for interactive, multi-functional products that can adapt to any space or situation – in staircases, across the wall, ceiling and floors. The copper tubes can be twisted and turned in any direction and can be joined to each other to create one long piece of alternating illuminated sections and coloured foam pieces. Small disks made from grey-veined marble root the ends of the light tubes to the ground or wall and connect the lights to a power source. Super cool and clever!
