Design Free Thursday // Real Surreal Photography by Ben Zank.

    3rd April

Ben Zank is not your average 22 year-old photographer. This New York youngster will do anything for the perfect shot. And we mean anything! Zank captures the most amazing series of conceptual photographs with himself as the subject, creating strange, melancholic and sometimes surreal images that capture the viewer’s imagination.

Lighting Layers & Reflections by Autumn de Wilde.

    11th March

American photographer, Autumn de Wilde has designed a pair of transparent and reflective jewel toned structures for a photo-shoot in the dry Californian landscape. Made of a combination of mirror and coloured plexiglass, images of the landscape are reflected on the structure, and the landscape is simultaneously cast with rose, warm gold and aqua tinted sunlight. The reciprocal exchange of colour, light and refraction are truly exquisite.

So Hot Right Now // Playing Dress Ups In Architecture Shoots.

    21st February

Empty, people-less spaces in architectural photography is out. Well, not really. But what’s in, is creative project shoots – and specifically dress ups. More and more, designers are taking an inventive approach to the capturing of their work on camera, incorporating props, people, and a strong sense of narrative. The result is some very dynamic – and entertaining – photography of houses and spaces, which could actually pass as works of art on their own.

Christopher Rimmer’s Haunting Images of Abandoned Towns Buried by Sand.

    13th February

Christopher Rimmer is a Melbourne-based fine art photographer who’s forthcoming exhibition, Sign of Life, is a visual examination of the tragedy of two abandoned towns slowly being buried by the sands. The images were shot on location in the diamond mining towns of Elizabeth Bay and Kolmanskop in South Western Namibia. Local institutions such as the hospital, ballroom, power station, theatre, casino, ice factory and the first x-ray-station in the Western Hemisphere are all shown in a surreal and almost unrecognisable state.
