Idaho-based Eli Craven splices and joins vintage photographs of famous couples, creating bizarre and hilarious collages. His Screen Lovers series depicts fictional and iconic movie couples manipulated into genius masterpieces, sometimes with a touch of pornography.

Craven is an American artist, whose work investigates the role of images in the process of socialisation through photography, found imagery, collage and sculpture. He is also interested in creating images and objects that suggest something tangible beyond the photograph itself. There is a lovely sense of melancholy and (sick) humour that really appeals to me. I hope you feel the same way too.

As the author of the original book (Screen Lovers, Conran Octopus/St Martin’s Press, 1988) from which this artist sourced his pictures, I would have appreciated the courtesy of a proper namecheck – at the very least, for having done his “curating” for him by gathering most of the images into a single volume. Thank you.
