Situated in Copenhagen’s Frederiksberg, Restaurant Radio takes its name from the city’s old Radio House. Owned by Claus Meyer, Denmark’s”gastronomic entrepreneur” and the creator of world famous Noma (the two-star Michelin restaurant voted best in the world in 2010 and 2011), Radio’s philosophy is all about premium plant-based seasonal ingredients grown at Meyer’s organic farm just outside of Copenhagen. So if you’re after a pulled pork roll, braised pork belly, or some bacon – this place ain’t for you. Bummer.

“The main idea behind this restaurant was to have talented people with great attitude cook and serve vegetable based modern Nordic food at accessible prices, in an unpretentious contemporary urban setting.” – Claus Meyer

The restaurant was designed by young Danish design firm HolmbäckNordentoft, in collaboration with graphic designer Christina Meyer Bengtsson (Claus Mayer’s wife). The interior design ethos perfectly complements the restaurant’s values and philosophy, offering a natural and honest setting for the food to be enjoyed.

“We have taken the essence of Nordic materials, and combined them in a distinct way to give the place its character”, says Ulrik Nordentoft of HolmbäckNordentoft.

This is such a considered, understated and sophisticated interior. Black furniture and lighting looks so striking against the recycled timber wall panelling and wide timber floor boards from Dinesen. Everything here has it’s place and a reason for being. There are no frills and unnecessary elements. The only decorative objects are the large photographs of the produce grown on Meyer’s farm.

In fact, this restaurant is so beautiful, that I might just forgive it for not having any pork meat on the menu. Big call, although I did say “might”, which means I’ll have to sleep on it.,,
