COOKBOOK north/south | Wolfgang, Shlomo & Max.

I am super duper excited to tell you about an upcoming launch for a very special not-for-profit publication called COOKBOOK north/south. And let me be make it very clear that this is no ordinary cookbook. Hell NO!
Initiated and facilitated by the clever designers at Wolfgang, Shlomo & Max, COOKBOOK north/south brings together a super creative and eclectic array of Melbourne’s chefs, artists and writers. This gorgeous book was letterpress printed by hand (oh man, you had me at ‘letterpress printed’) with a strictly limited edition of only 500 copies.
The book explores ten Melbourne suburbs and the contributors were asked to find inspiration in their suburb and creatively interpret their surroundings via recipes, original artworks and short stories. Each of the ten suburb-inspired chapters features a lino-cut artwork, three recipes and a short story.

Oh, so you want to know about some of the contributors? Sure thing. The book features recipes by Jesse Gerner of Añada, Andrew McConnell of Cutler & Co, Robert Castellani of Donovan’s, Brendan McQueen of Matteo’s, Dallas Cuddy of Verge to name just a few. Original prints by David Band (ummmm… hello!), Regan Tamanui, tin&ed, Jane Reiseger and many others. Yes, serious talent indeed.
All profits from this book will be donated to SecondBite, a not-for-profit organisation committed to the redistribution of surplus nutritious food to people experiencing food security issues within the community.

Is it just me, or is this stuff hugely inspiring? How many clever peeps do you know that talk about creative ventures (often at the pub) but never actually do anything about it? I hope that his project can serve as a shining light of example for what’s possible when creative forces join and actually turn a dream into reality. Big congratulations to Shona, Lily & Kirsty on this amazing achievement and hats off to everyone involved.
COOKBOOK north/south will be launched this coming Monday at Craft Victoria where copies of the book will be for sale at $100 AUD. The books will be available to purchase online from Tuesday 30th November via Wolfgang, Shlomo & Max website.

Images above and below show the printing process for the book. This unbound publication consists of individual hand printed cards – these were first offset then letterpress printed at the Melbourne Museum of Printing.
Yep, that is every graphics/ typography/ printing nerd wet dream right there.
Wholesome old school goodness.
Extreme love.
