Design Free Thursday | Color Me Katie.

Ok, so it turns out that my [kind of accidental] Design Free Thursday post series is one of the most popular on the blog. What’s that about? In case you failed to notice, this is a design blog people! So how come you all seem to like these design free posts then? Anyway, I don’t mind, cause I really like them too. It makes me so happy to post about fun and inspiring things that bring joy to my day, and as a result also bring happiness to you.
So today, I wanted to share my extreme love for Color Me Katie, a blog by Katie Sokoler who is a Brooklyn based photographer and street artist. How do I describe Katie and her blog? A little bottle of joy and happiness. If I’m ever feeling down and out, or a little blue, all I need to do is visit her pages and I am instantly uplifted.
It’s like opening a can of instant happiness!
Hooray!

Some of the things I love about Katie:
- She is a big daydreamer and quite possibly the cutest person alive!
- She is inspired by strangers that help strangers, adults that are children at heart, an honest smile, a child’s imagination.
- She doesn’t like to sulk or feel gloomy “because I feel like I’m just wasting time and not doing anything to help myself feel better. Feeling sad inspires me to do something positive, like decorate my neighborhood with stickers. It makes me feel a lot better to be creative and to make my neighbors smile.”
- She does loads of projects, big and small, which are all about making others feel happy or loved. Amazing.
- Her and her boyfriend take part in Improv Everywheremissions, hilarious Flash Mob style events which include things like Star Wars on the subway, Ghostbusters in the New York Public Library or surprise wedding reception for a random couple getting married at City Hall.
- Countless other reasons, some of which are listed here.

I seriously cannot recommend bookmarking Katie’s blog highly enough. Visiting her pages makes my heart fill up with joy, and I don’t know about you, but that’s how I wish to feel ALL THE TIME. Check out this little documentary, where Katie talks about her projects, why she does what she does and her outlook on life. Btw, the video goes into a 20 second ad before playing the documentary, so please be patient as you cannot skip it.

Ahhh, so so so so good. Thank you for all the smiles lovely Katie – this world needs more people like you!
Now go on, grab yourself your own big smile and have an awesome day full of sunshine.
