I am madly in love with Niche Modern lighting. The Pharos lights have been an integral part of one of my concept boards for over 12 months, and in the end both the client and I had to give them up. Damn new lighting code that only allows energy efficient light sources! What is going to happen to all these stunning glass lights with incadescent globes? Does it mean that we will never be able to use them in a commercial application ever again?

Niche Modern has actually developed a frosted version that can take a fluorescent globe, which deals with the very issue I just mentioned. You can see it here – but I warn you, it’s going to make you really sad.

I want to be able to use pretty lights in my commercial jobs dammit. Not happy Jan!

is there anyone in Aust that distributes these lights, eg the frosted ones which are still beautiful

    6. Stu, I don’t think that anyone in Australia distributes these lights, but you can order them direct from the supplier.

Incandescent ban? New Zealand just overturned it and there
is a lot of pressure on politicians in America to delay it going
into effect. CFL bulbs are not the magic silver bullet that
everyone was hoping they would be and have just as many negatives
as they do positives. It will be interesting to see what Australia
does long term. Constitutionally in the US, I find it interesting
how we can ban incandescent bulbs, but allow people to kill
themselves smoking, yet we can force them at gunpoint to buy health
insurance that they can’t afford. We live in a world of double
      standards.
